The Architects Newspaper recently hosted Facades+ Philadelphia, a multi-city conference series that brings together architects, industry experts, academics, and building owners to discuss “all things building skin.” The event was co-chaired by Partner Matthew Krissel and moderated by KieranTimberlake staff Efrie Freidlander, Fátima Olivieri, and Jon McCandlish.

Nine speakers presented during three sessions on topics ranging from envelope performance to Philadelphia's design trajectory. In a session that explored how computation can do more than optimize and analyze designs, KieranTimberlake Director of Computation Christopher Connock cited the firm's work with board-formed concrete at Wellesley College, wood weathering at the University of Washington, and a self-shading facade at Iowa State University to demonstrate the expanding role of computation in building envelope design.  
 
“There is a rich history of design in Philadelphia as well as a thriving group of young and emerging design practices doing innovative work,” said Krissel during his keynote address. “This was a great opportunity hear from both established firms and new practitioners about novel facade designs, processes, and outcomes.”
