Building Ghosts Book Launch
Last week, KieranTimberlake hosted an evening of art and conversation in celebration of the new publication Building Ghosts: Past Lives and Lost Places in a Changing City. This event concludes our year of public programming in celebration of our 40th anniversary.
In a discussion moderated by Penn Lecturer Ashley Hahn, authors Molly Lester (Urban Heritage Project) and Michael Bixler (Hidden City Philadelphia) explored themes from the book, including community heritage, dislocation, demolition, and neighborhood change within Philadelphia.
The companion Building Ghosts exhibition at KieranTimberlake interprets photography and essays from the publication in an artful installation using materials from Revolution Recovery, a construction and demolition waste recycling company in northeast Philadelphia.
Access to the site was graciously made possible by RAIR, the artist in residence program embedded in the site whose mission is to challenge the perception of waste culture by providing a unique platform for artists at the intersection of art and industry.
Building Ghosts complements KieranTimberlake's commitment to the conservation, renovation, and transformation of existing buildings whenever possible. We envision a beautiful, resonant, and regenerative built environment. The book and exhibition provide valuable reflection on these themes across our hometown of Philadelphia.
Interpreted and designed by visual artist and in-house graphic designer Sarah Kaizar, the exhibition is on view in the Bottling House, our lobby gallery, through April 4, 2025.
Please contact Sarah for more information and to schedule a visit.
