UPenn Breaks Ground on Renovation and Expansion of Historic Weitzman Hall

The 130-year-old red-brick building on 34th Street will double in size with the new addition on its east side

KieranTimberlake was on campus for the celebration of the future renovation and expansion of historic Stuart Weitzman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania's Weitzman School of Design.

This will be the first major capital project for the School in more than 50 years.

KieranTimberlake has several Penn alumni on staff, including Partners Stephen Kieran, James Timberlake, and Matthew Krissel. Partner Billie Faircloth and Principal Efrie Escott are current instructors at the School.

The structure, formerly known as the Morgan Building, was renamed in May when the School revealed plans for the renovation and expansion, which will double the existing space to as much as 38,500 square feet.

Weitzman Hall will feature a grand entrance foyer, a glass-walled exhibition gallery that opens to a covered outdoor patio, individual and multi-seat studios, large smart classrooms and critique spaces, and faculty offices.

The design includes an open 3,000-square-foot studio space on the top floor of the original building, including the original beams, opening out to the 34th Street balcony.
