HEAR FROM THE ARCHITECTS

"There's only so much detail that you can model in a rendering or even a technical drawing, whereas when you're making something, it helps reveal similar challenges that the contractor and the team will have on-site."

– Bella Purdy

4.1 Building Plinth Brick Bases

How will metal interact with brick and concrete in a temperate rainforest climate?

Different materials were explored for in the bases in order to address the possibility of harmful bio-growth.

4.2 Western Red Cedar Panels

What is the optimal configuration for an open-joint, vertical board cladding design?

All of the facade elements, from the wood to the horizontal member that can be seen through the joints, are inspired by Pacific Northwest Native American weaving.

Building the cedar panels in the shop allowed the team to proactively work through potential problems that could arise during the construction process.
